Social Media is not just a place to like comments, tag friends or post a photo. In 2014 social media became a place of social justice for many speaking out against problems, from all over the world.
One of the many social justice stories is that of women from all over the world speaking out about abortions. Amelia Bonow used the hashtag #ShoutYourAbortion to inspire women to speak out about their abortions even though there is a large amount of pressure and stigma to stay silent. Without social media the opportunity for women to be seen as equals would not have happened.
Not only are ordinary people are using social media. Companies are using it to gain evidence in cases as well as to provide services to the public. In 2015 an I.A.C.P (the International Association of Chiefs Police) survey showed that 83.5% of agencies claimed that social media helped solve several crimes and has improved relationships with the police force. So many people worldwide are using social media sites to advertise issues then we should start to see social media as a place for social justice.
Social media is not just a place to like and share photos, it is a place to bring up issues world-wide and it is our responsibility and change the way people act and respond to calls of Social Justice.
